Six-time Olympic medalist Clara Hughes transitioned from a life of speed to a journey of self-discovery through long-distance hiking, covering over 16,000 kilometers and finding solace in movement. In her talks, she highlights how movement can transform lives, drawing from her experience battling depression to inspire others to overcome challenges and embrace their potential.
Making history as the only athlete to win multiple medals in both summer and winter Games for Canada, Hughes also spearheaded initiatives like Bell Let’s Talk to destigmatize mental illness and embarked on the "Clara’s Big Ride" tour, cycling over 11,000 kilometers to raise awareness for mental health. Recognized with numerous accolades, including induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada, Hughes continues her pursuit of meaning through outdoor adventures and advocacy for mental wellness.
